The 76 House - Witness to a Revoution

August 9th, 2007 · 1 Comment

Join us on a history trip to the days of the American Revolution with Robert C.D. Norden, Proprietor, Preservationist and Tavernkeeper at New York’s Oldest Tavern - The 76 House.

The history and significance of the 76 House is well documented and indisputable, built just after the creation of Tappan with the Tappan Patent way back in 1686, The 76 House is the place where Major John Andre was held captive during his trial at the nearby Dutch Reformed Church - The oldest Dutch Reformed Church in America.

Major John Andre was caught with the plans to West Point in his boot, given to him by the infamous traitor and more well known - Benedict Arnold. Andre was hung as a commoner by the commoners and with it set off a chain of events worldwide which changed the social fabric of the world as we know it today. Andre’s body was later removed from his grave on what is now Andre Hill and afforded the honor of being buried in Westminster Abbey amongst Kings, Queens and some of the Worlds Most famous in Poets Corner. Listen in and discover for yourself.
